The role of lymphatic flow, chiropractic, reflexology and neurological well-being.

PsychoneuroimmunologyTying It All Together

Flow is an interesting word when it comes to health, healing and well being. The word carries with it a certain feeling of movement. Something fluid not fixed and something amorphic and embryonic.

I first changed my mind about how the brain communicates with the body tissue in the early 1970’s when I was introduced to Transcendental Meditation. I remember discussions about thoughts creating physiological change and I remember being able to quickly resonate with the concept. Years later as I entered into private practice I was able to observe the most profound changes in human health recovery by doing a chiropractic adjustment or making a dietary change or applying an herbal or by simply offering a human connection back to health.

Then, in the early eighty’s I came across the idea that there were real physical transmissions of thought in the form of neuropeptides. Little proteinaceous particles released by brain tissue into the humor of the body and able to flow to distant cells and affect a physical change by creating a neurological signal into tissues. It does this without an uninterrupted action potential through the uninterrupted physical pathway of an axon.

How profound was this idea?

Well, it brought me right back to the TM class where we were considering thoughts changing body functions. Now I had physical proof and validation thanks in part to Deepak Chopra. I have included in this blog an excerpt from some stunning research done at the University of  Virginia.  I can see more clearly how the flow of the lymphatic and vascular systems can mediate even more actions prescribed by brain activity in directing the flow of our body toward life, health and well-being.

The next adjustment or reflexology session you receive could be opening up the flow of more than just neural transmission through a fixed nerve pathway. It could be opening up vascular and lymphatic flow to the brain and from the brain to the body in the deliverance of those little proteins that cause your tissues to respond and stay in flow with your life force.
